/daemon was added in Codex CLI 0.156.0 as a menu for the local background server. Use it to update the daemon package or restore a pinned package to the latest stable.

  1. Run /daemon.
  2. Choose an update action from the menu.
  3. If other sessions share the server, check their state after the update.

From 0.157.0, eligible interactive sessions start the background server automatically and offer recovery choices when server settings are incompatible. To bypass the shared server, launch with --no-daemon.
